Miniature Ceramic Animals Gallery – 2019

Here are most of the miniature ceramic animals I created in 2019. I began sculpting in 2018, so these are from my very first year of work on ceramic animals. There have been many tests, glazes fails and breaks along the way. Since that time, I’ve refined both my technique and my materials. But all these pieces helped me figure out a lot of things.

Figuring out miniature ceramic animals sculpting

First I figured out loads of technical stuff. How to let my tiny animal figurines dry out in a quick but safe fashion and avoid cracks, how to let them stand on tiny fragile legs and make them balance just right. It’s all in the details ! I also knocked quite a few pieces over along the way so I learned how to repair dry clay ! After a while, I also got into repairing fired pieces of clay in a kintsugi manner. But It’s only in the fashion of kintsugi, this is a centuries old art and I do not pretend to have mastered it nor to use the noble materials involved. Let’s take a look at the blog for a few step by steps !

Figuring out e-commerce

Even though I had a little experience in e-commerce and website management, as well as SEO and marketing, applying the methods to my own work was something new. What was also new was the handling and shipping of miniature ceramic animals orders. Hopefully I’ve improved a lot with the 500+ orders that have gone through since then ^^.

I apply a strict reusable / recyclable shipping materials policy and try to stick to my zero plastics shipping rule too.

Growing !

In just a few months, I have grown from a hobby sculptor to a professional ceramics artist and it’s the best feeling actually. I’m much less stressed out by my work, I make things with joy and mindfulness. And I think it shows ^^

Fast forward : what did I do in 2020 ? More miniature ceramic animals !
